Puppies

Sometimes we have to deal with a “flood of puppies”. Why is that? Depending on the breed, there are between three and nine dogs in a litter. Perhaps the owners keep one or two – the rest are “thrown away”.
The puppies can then see how they get by. If they are lucky, they will be found. If we are called, we try to bring the puppies through. The first few months are risky because parvovirus, also known as “puppy plague”, can kill all the puppies at once. It is a highly contagious infectious disease and usually leads to death if left untreated. One sick dog can infect a whole group.

Once the puppies have survived an infection or have been vaccinated, it no longer occurs. We place our puppies at the earliest after 8–9 weeks and, like all dogs, they are chipped and vaccinated.
